How to Improve Your Wardrobe Without Spending Much

There’s nothing more time consuming and frustrating than standing in front of your jam-packed closet and feeling like you have nothing to wear. Actually, you have plenty of clothes you can wear, but the point is that the clothes you own simply no longer add up to complete a stylish look. This can be extremely exasperating, especially if you just can’t afford to replace everything with new ones.

But don’t give up just yet. There are several ways you can do to improve your wardrobe without spending too much. Read on to find out how you can upgrade your closet on a cheap.

1. Come up with a capsule collection
A capsule collection consists of timeless clothing pieces. These clothes can be effortlessly mixed and matched with anything in your closet. Raid your closet and find your no-fail outfits you feel good and comfortable wearing. A good capsule collection should include a plain white tee, a simple button-down shirt, denim jeans, a tailored blazer, a little black dress and a comfy pair of office trousers.

2. Consider accessories
A capsule wardrobe—no matter how simple the pieces are—can be vamp up by adding a few elements. A plain white tee and jeans can look sophisticated when paired with kitten heels and a statement necklace or a cute scarf. Accessories can make a look, so don’t be afraid to get yourself a few brightly colored pieces to add to your outfits.

3. Shop at bazaars, night markets and thrift shops
These places have the best deals to begin with. But as you filter through endless racks of clothes, you will need some creative imagination, a great deal of patience and better haggling skills. However, remember to prioritize first the pieces you’re looking for—a floral dress and a pair of tattered jeans, for example. Once you found them, you can start wandering around to look for more pieces. That way, you have more energy to look for your priority purchases and won’t be killing your time and budget buying clothes you don’t need in the first place.

4. Split costs with your sister
Having a sister can do wonders for your wardrobe. While you and your sister are almost in the same age and have the same style, there could be some pieces you would both want to share and own. Shop for quality pieces—for example, a mid-priced purse or a pair of heels—and agree on splitting the bill.

5. Include shopping in your monthly budget
Again, no need to spare a big chunk of your paycheck on shopping. Budget just enough to shop at thrift stores and night markets. Jot down all your expenses first, and then allot a feasible amount for thrift shopping.
Take advantage of these tips, and you will be calling yourself a smart fashionista in no time.

There are so many nature trails to check out in Singapore. Whether you are a hiking-junkie couple or simply want to take a walk around a lush, green environment, there are many places you can go for an experience with nature. 6. Saint Games
If you and your partner have a knack for gaming, go and play at Saint Games. The video game café offers sports games, music and rhythm games, 2-player Co-op games, fighting games and a lot more that you and your date can enjoy.

7. Bowling
Orchid Bowl is the place to be if you and your partner enjoy bowling while there’s heart-thumping music and neon strobe lights on the background. With its cosmic bowling sessions, you and your date can unwind and have a fun time simply with the game and the music.

8. Ice Skating
Playing around in the ice rink can lead to a fun and romantic date, especially if your date is new to it. If you’re looking for ways to get your partner to hold your hand or live that “girl slips and guy catches her” moment from the movies, ice skating is the answer.

How to Remove Mildew from Leather Goods in 3 Steps

Over time, leather products such as shoes, clothes, and even handbags can have mildew and mold especially when kept in areas that are both hot and humid. Before it permanently damages the leather, it’s important to deal with the mold and mildew as quickly as possible.

Here’s how you can get rid of mold and mildew from your leather goods:

1. Take them outside
All you need to start a mildew colony is a single spore, so when you find it on any item kept in a humid area, it can multiply as quickly as possible.

The first step to dealing with mildewed items is to take them outside and use a soft-bristled brush to brush the spores away. You should also make sure to discard their paper or cardboard storage boxes since the mold or mildew can spread through them.

2. Add soap
Mix equal parts of mild detergent, leather saddle soap, and warm water in a bucket and wipe the leather surface down by dipping a clean cloth or sponge in this solution. Avoid placing them near direct heat or out in the sun.
After this, you should start killing the spores by mixing an equal ratio of cool water and rubbing alcohol. For shoes, use a cotton swab to deal with hard-to-reach crevices. Finally, be sure to wipe them down and allow to air dry.

Alternatively, you can also use a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar. If you’re not sure if the mixture works, be sure to test it out on a small area of the material before proceeding to clean it.

3. Recondition the leather
Both leather and faux leather are products with oils that need to be maintained properly in order to prevent cracks from forming.

Wait for the leather item to dry completely before adding a leather conditioner. You can usually find leather conditioners in most cleaning sections, and when you do, be sure to follow the product’s instructions.

Tips on Proper Leather Care
Controlling temperature, air flow, and even humidity is crucial to caring for leather products in order to make them last for a long time.

Aside from doing the mentioned steps to keep mold and mildew free from your leather goods, there are other tips you can take to ensure proper care for them, such as the following:

• Store leather goods in cool, dry areas that are dust-free to minimize the growth of mold and mildew spores
• Never store soiled items – clean them first and let them dry out completely before storing them
• Reduce moisture in your home by using a dehumidifier and waterproof any damp areas and foundations; you can also add silica gel packets as an alternative

5 Common Shoe Problems Your Cobbler Can Fix for You

Your shoes are an investment, so it’s important to not just take care of them, but also to have tem repaired and adjusted by a skilled cobbler when needed. This way, you not only get to save money, but you also extend the life of your footwear or even make it brand-new again.

To get you started, here are five common problems with your shoes that a cobbler can easily fix for you:

1. Slippery sole
A slippery sole is usually a sole that has worn down over time, and when you find that you have a hard time walking on your shoes without slipping, don’t hesitate to take them to a cobbler to install new non-skid ones.

2. Broken heel
A broken heel can easily ruin your day, but that doesn’t mean that your heels can’t be saved or even turned into something different entirely. For instance, your cobbler can easily narrow your wide heel into a stiletto, or adjust your stiletto into a wide heel.

3. The in-sole is too stiff
Your cobbler can add the right padding that suits the insole and arch of your shoes, which is great if you find yourself needing to walk a long distance in heels.

If you have a pinched toe or a tight heel, a cobbler can also stretch that part of your shoe for you using a stretching machine, as well as adjust the back part of the shoe in order to keep your heels from getting blisters.
Other problems include your shoe itself being either too tight or too loose, and if the latter is true for you, the worst thing you can encounter is accidentally flinging your shoe off and being unable to retrieve it.

4. Too long/short straps
Sandals or sling-backs can either be too long or too short for your foot, but a cobbler can adjust the straps for you to make them fit just right.

5. Not being weather/waterproof
When you’re stuck with bad weather and need to get from one place to another quickly in the rain, it’s important to have footwear that can stand up to the rain without soaking your feet.

But while you may think that getting boots for rainy days is a little too much, there’s a great fix for that. You can easily make your shoes waterproof by taking them to a cobbler and have any gaps tightened to prevent any water from going in.

Shoes eventually wear down with time and constant use, even with proper maintenance, in which case you need to take it to a cobbler who can fix it for you. But the good news is that there are many cobblers in Singapore who can do it for a reasonable price.

Tips on How You Can Work Well Under Pressure

It has been observed that in Singapore, more and more workers are facing stress at work. There can be a lot of reasons behind this, but surely one is pressure. Much is expected from an individual and that can lead to the build-up of stress. But when he/she knows how to work well under pressure, that can present a lot of opportunities.

Place a positive spin on the situation
What makes working under pressure hard is our initial perception of pressure itself. Many of us see high-pressure situations as intimidating and threatening times. This leads to performing less and less productively. So, begin with changing the way you look at pressure. Think of it not as a threat but as a challenge. This way, you won’t drain yourself emotionally before the work even starts and you will be able to accept it just as another challenge that you can easily finish.

Plan ahead
Plan ahead of everything, and plan for the worst. This not only makes things flow a lot smoother, you’ll also be able to work easier under pressure. This is because you’re already ready for the unexpected. You have to recognize that unexpected things will always happen and not everything always goes in your favor. Planning things clearly ahead means that you are prepared for whatever may happen and makes you less affected by blunders and mistakes you otherwise would not have expected.

Don’t worry about the outcome
Focus on the task at hand instead of worrying about the outcome. Thinking about the outcome of a task before you even do it only gives you unnecessary stress. When you concentrate on what’s in front of you, you’ll be able to do things step by step hence finish the job more efficiently.

Listen to music you enjoy
Music is a great mood booster when working under pressure. There’s a lot of debate on how music affects productivity, but you can’t deny that it can help improve your mood. Playing some music will give you back some energy to do your tasks when you’re already getting tired. This is because music can also distract you from your worries and troubles. Try it, and dance around (if your work permits) if you want to even!

Psych yourself up
This is something unique to each person and is something fun you can try. Before you start on your task, psych yourself up with a certain routine or something like a pre-work ritual. For example, you can look and point at your reflection in the mirror and say, “You can do this!”. It can also be as simple as shouting, “I am the best! And I can do this!” Of course, make sure you’re not doing anything that might disturb others. This is just a good and simple way to muster more confidence and enthusiasm out of yourself.

Why You Should Start Doing Calisthenics Now

Calisthenics are exercises performed rhythmically using only bodyweight. You may have passed the Singapore Calisthenics Academy or some calisthenics parks and you’ve become curious about this form of exercise. So, here are some of the reasons why you should start doing calisthenics!

1. You can do it anywhere
Calisthenics can be done just about anywhere because it only really utilizes your own bodyweight. You can go to parks or playgrounds and use the monkey bars, you can stay at home and have a pull-up bar set up, you’ll be able to do it wherever you are. Aside from being able to do it anywhere, you also won’t need to buy some fancy equipment.

2. Builds strength
Because you use your bodyweight in calisthenics exercises, you activate a lot more muscles. This, in turn, will help improve your overall endurance and strength. Using more muscle groups (which will always happen in calisthenics) instead of focusing on a specific one will allow the body to spread and develop muscle strength more effectively.

3. Full-body workouts
Calisthenics exercises involve focusing on the entire body and not just one muscle or muscle group. The pull-up, for example, not only targets your back muscles but also involves the use of the arms, the core, and the shoulders.

4. Less taxing on the joints
With the natural movement employed in calisthenics exercises, you are less susceptible to injuries. Lifting weights, especially if done incorrectly or if they’re too heavy, can cause excessive strain on your joints, ligaments, and tendons. Additionally, multiple muscles are working together which means that a particular muscle is less likely to get injured.

5. Good for building muscle
Some may argue that calisthenics is not really optimal for building more muscle, but this isn’t necessarily the case. Especially when you’ve just started working out, you’ll definitely see gains. Once you get used to the exercises, you can then add other factors like weighted chains and sandbags to increase the intensity of your workout. Plus, calisthenics not only helps build muscle, but also makes muscle tone more visible.

6. Flexibility
To be able to perform the movements correctly, exercises typically require a certain amount of flexibility. The body easily adapts to these exercises to maximize and improve flexibility. This is particularly beneficial because it can also translate to functional movement. This means that you get better at doing your day to day physical activities.

7. It’s really fun
In a way, calisthenics can be fun because you can always use your creativity to experiment with your workouts. Most people lose motivation in exercising because of the repeated routines they are meant to do. With calisthenics though, you could do a hundred exercises and still add something to spice them up.

4 Reasons Why You Should Embrace the Minimalist Lifestyle

It’s easy to live a life where you’re used to having a lot of baggage around, but having all the stuff around you don’t use has its own downsides. More often than not, you only end up finding that you have so much that’s covered in dust, or even eaten away by mold or moth larvae.

This is where minimalism comes in as a change in mindset or a way of life – and there are a lot of benefits that come along with it.

In fact, there are a lot of reasons for anyone to start making the change, such as the following (that you really need to know about right now):

1. No need to stress out when getting ready
If you’ve noticed that it takes a lot of time for you to get dressed, you might have also noticed that that most of the time spent “getting ready” comes from having to choose which clothes to wear.

If this is the case for you, there’s a good chance that you may have amassed too many to begin with, and the result is that you can’t make up your mind on anything at all.

2. You organize your stuff better
It’s not just your closet that’s stressing you out lately, or for some time now – it’s everything in your room, or even your whole home, that you can’t seem to arrange neatly.

There comes a point when there’s only so much that your place can store, and it’s time to start clearing away things that you haven’t used in a long time.

Embracing the minimalist lifestyle is a physical and mental “de-cluttering” of sorts. By clearing out all the things you don’t need, you focus your attention better on only the things that you do.

3. You get to make better decisions
By adopting a minimalist mindset to your room, your home, and other aspects of your life such as your social media presence, you learn that there’s so much that you have that needs more attention – and so many others that don’t.
You also stop impulse buying when you see the first instance of a sale, which is something your wallet is guaranteed to thank you.

Minimalism doesn’t necessarily mean living cheap, though this could also go that way – it means having only the stuff you really need and not having to buy all the time. This can mean investing in expensive, high-quality items that don’t break down so easily.

4. Minimalism lets you appreciate space
Once you’ve started clearing your living space (and in a way, your mind as well), you might be surprised to find that there was so much room in your home to begin with. Everything is wider and feels less cramped, and you can breathe and move around more easily because of this.
